On Wednesday, August 16, at high noon, we loaded up the family and roughly 27.3 metric tonnes of luggage, and headed to Hartsfield-Jackson airport. Our goal: turn our comfortable life on its head by moving a 1 year old, a 4 year old, and two in-denial adults to France for four months. Nominally, we were heading there to teach at Georgia Tech’s campus in France. Practically, we were going because now that Buzz was sleeping through the night, we couldn’t take the calm, peaceful existence looming over the horizon.
On Saturday morning, Buzz was standing in front of me at the end of the coffee table, about 3 feet away. He looked at me, turned, let go and walked 3 steps to me. It’s was a big moment!
Finally, the Winter Olympics! Since she loves skiing (well, we’ve been once) and loves skating (ok, I think she mostly loves the popcorn we always get), I had hopes she might find something to like in the Olympics.

Well, it wasn’t as much “the last day” as “the day we went home”. Out onto the road by 9:30, finally rolling into Casa MacMynatt around 8pm.

The second day of the trip was another day of fun in the snow! In the morning, Grace, Blair and Beth played outside in the deep snow, and then (after a lot of absurd driving around) we went skiing again in the afternoon.

While most of the fund outdoor activities seemed to revolve around Grace, Buzz had his encounters with the snow. And he didn’t like it.
